I am trying to determine why my wipers are no longer operating. I have just replaced the wiper motor cover and they still do not work. Before Ii purchase a wiper motor, I would like to test the wiper/washer module located underneath the dash. My problem is that I do not know what the module looks like or exactly where it is located. Can someone please give me some adult guidance?
The pump for the washer is separate, and I believe it's located near the reservior behind the right fender. The wiper switch is in the steering column; the turn signal stalk attaches to it. You know where the wiper motor is since you replaced the cover. I'm not aware of any additional components in the system except probably the ECM; it's involved in just about every system.
I'm not sure exactly how, but make sure the motor is getting power. Also, one part that tends to go bad and cause problems is the park switch inside the motor. You can easily replace it by removing the cover. Usually it causes the wipers to operate strangely and intermittently when it fails, but when mine went bad it progressed from intermittent problems to complete failure. Good luck!
The park switch determines where the blades are in the cycle, so that when you turn the mottor off the wiper blades stop in the down position. The park switch is located inside the wiper motor. It can be accessed by removing the black plastic wiper motor cover. It is available separately from the wiper motor, so if it fails you don't have to replace the whole motor.
When the park switch fails, sometimes the wipers won't work in delay mode, sometimes they won't operate in the slow speed mode, and sometimes they don't turn off properly. Hope this makes it clear.
Alright! Thanks for the info! I have those issues but only after I wash the engine and get everything wet. Leaving the carwash sometimes I can't turn the wipers off until I turn off the ignition. Other times the delay won't work...I'll look into replacing that thing! :seeya
