My 1988 has a ticking noise on the drivers side of the engine, any ideas on the cause. Seems to still run good and pull hard (has 53K miles). I'm thinking maybe a stuck lifter, or bent pushrod, or perhaps the rockers need adjustment?
Check out your injectors. Maybe run a cleaner thru them. Every other tank full I put in some "OUTLAW" injector cleaner.
This has helped.
I think this would help.

First check the injectors, and second check your oil level (sounds silly but true). A quick fix for noisey lifters is MOLY E engine additive which will quiet down the lifters. I used this stuff for two years on my last car and it worked every oil change.
Thanks for the replies, I had the injectors pressure tested and they were not leaking. I had a Chevy truck that did this and I ran a quart or tranny fluid in the oil before changing and it quieted them down great. On my 79 Firebird the culprit was a broken pushrod guide plate. Seems to do it after she's warmed up.

I did the same thing to my 81 Firebird. I never had to worry about it being noisy again.. the new motor I had to drop in it is very quiet in comparison! :D The previous owner ran it about 10k miles on Quaker State with no oil change.
Seriously though, I have a slight ticking sound as well and it's injectors for me. I was sure that it was below the valve cover, but when I popped mine off there was nothing out of the ordinary going on under there, and it quieted down when I put new injectors in.
I didn't replace mine because the ticking.. from what I've gathered here on the forum, it's normal. I replaced mine because I had some that were stuck open and I lost 35 pounds of pressure in about 5 minutes.
Try touching your finger to one of your injectors and see if the pulsing from the injector (trust me, you'll feel it) coincides with the ticking you hear. You shouldn't have to remove anything to test it. Just open the hood and touch the side of the injector.
Cool tip, I'll try it. I planned on new injectors for next year if I still have this car, I keep getting tempted on newer vette's, because the prices on the C-5's in this area are getting real low due to the current economic conditions. I spotted a '00 with 15K miles for $23K, heck you can hardly get a Korean mini SUV for that price.
