I have replaced three digital 6 and switched to an MSD 6 AL. 4000 miles on the last one. Has anyone else had this problem? What is the fix? Thanks :skep:
Quite a few here on the forum have had the same problem. I don't think anyone has really nailed down what the cause of the problem is. I was thinking about going to the Digital 6+ (for it's retard capabilities, etc) but after hearing of the problems, opted not to.
You made the right move going to the 6AL though... :)
I've had zero problems with my Digital 6. It's mounted under the passenger side headlight (lost a horn) on a fabbed aluminum plate with rubber isolators.
Call the mfr, they know their product best and may have some suggestions.
:iagree: :iagree: MSD would be who I would ask. I keep reading about problems and I have been using one for the last four years without a problem. One guy installed three and swore that they were all bad but I think those kind of problems are due to faulty installations. Anyway if you have a problem MSD will be more help than you will get here.
Get your inst. sheets out it will tell you the right resistor to use, off the top of my head I can't remember. If I remember right it has to be inline for the box AND the dist. both. :flag
One other thing if you ever get another one get the 6alM it's shoch proof and water tight.
The fix is to throw it out, and run good gas so you dont need any retard.
I went though 3 units, twice i broke down on the side of the road. Its too dangerous to break down in traffic, etc. SO I got rid of it. Turns out with a 100 shot nitrous, i didnt need it anyways.
I mounted my Digital6+ just above the battery in my engine compartment. I had it fail and sent it back 2 times and both times they sent it back to me with a slip saying there was nothing wrong with it. I know it is the box because when it fails I can jump out and yank the wires and plug everything back stock and drive away fine. I put it back in after getting it back the 2nd time and it is still failing. I have unplugged it and havn't figured out what to do now. I do intend to try to get in touch with my local rep since I bought the box from a local speed parts shop. It is rather frustrating that I have been having so much trouble with mine also. As well as spending $14.00 shipping twice. Good luck with whatever you find on yours.
