Milage Readout Malfunction
My instant and average milage readouts suddenly went to 86 and 99 respectively. When stopped the instant reads 0, then goes to 86 as soon as car moves. Obviously getting vehicle speed info but apparently no vacuum signal. Any suggestions? Where does ECM get it's vacuum signal from for this gauge?

My mileage readout is acting funky also, along with the speedo (analog & digital), and shift light. My average mileage goes back and forth from 1.2 to whatever and the instantaneous goes from zero to whatever. The speedo jumps around when I am sitting at a stoplight, and the shift light goes on and off quite a bit.
I believe the mileage is figured as a calculation of vehicle speed, RPM, and injector pulsewidth. This will give you an accurate indication of fuel flow and mileage.
Wrote an e-mail to Gene Taber who rebuilds the clusters for about $195 and he said my cluster needed a trip to his shop. I have to reluctantly agree because hooking my laptop up to the ECM I do not see the speedo and shift light agreeing with the cluster.
