Next time, if you can pull the window away from the weatherstripping slightly, you can stick a hanger, or something similar through the gap and hit the power lock button. Cheaper than a locksmith.
I did that once... Luckly, the customer I was at was a mechanics shop with lots of guys that probably broke into cars for secondary income... :p: Anyways, they had a slim jim and tried for a long time to get in... after a while one of the guys exclaimed, "Man, your car is hard to break into." We went about it thru the window and hit the power lock switch. :p:
I did this, in one of my more intelligent moments. Door locked, engine running, headlights and windscreen wipers on. Raining.
I found a long strip of steel, threaded it over the top of the windoew, and nudged the window lift/lower switch on the console, 'til I could get my hand in top open the door.
Yes, here is the trick, it works every time. Grasp your wallet, retract it from where you keep it (mine is in my left rear pant pocket), open the wallet and extract the door key, open the car door with the spare door key and you will then have access to your ignition key which is still in the ignition switch. :D
Gotta admit, I keep a spare door key in my wallet as well. Many if not most wallets have a location just for this. Never had to use it in anger, but nice to know it's there.
I know this idea is of little or not value to the original post, but this is a place to share ideas. I have locked myself out of the car several times and finally decided to do something about it! I keep a spare DOOR KEY in a magnetic key holder and this is "stuck" under the car where I can get to it. This has come in handy during some of my dumb azz moments! The little plastic boxes are readily available from Wal Mart for less than a dollar.
