I'm pretty ignorant on stereo stuff. But, I was thinking about this... I've scoped out CD stereo stuff for C4s and haven't found anything that made me jump on it. Well, there is this ipod stuff where a tiny case holds like 1500 songs. Couldn't you do that in the stereo in your car? Are they making those for Vettes? That may be the way to go for retro-fitting "old" cars with new stereos now.
Thereare plenty of head units on the market today that will read MP3's. I just put a new JVC unit in mine that will play MP3 or WMA (Windows Format files) as well as CD-R, CD-RW and teh usual compact discs.... To play MP3's you just need to burn a CD with folders full of them and as long asthe head can handle it, they'll play just fine...
nope - he's talking about burning files onto a CD.
MP3 takes up about 8% of the normal CD audio. Therefore you can get about 12-15 disks onto a disk. So how you store the files doesn't matter. Solid state, optical or magnetic.
I'm not sure of any head units that accept solid state stuff, and I've heard of a couple that use hard drives.
If you're after MP3, you obviously have a pc and a system that can store media. Getting it to your car is another thing altogether. I prefer burning CDs with MP3, because the media is cheap to the point of disposable, and cars are set up to handle CDs. (storage, trade w/friends, blah blah blah)
The hard disk stuff is expensive. You have to pull the whole thing out and connect to the PC to upload data. But you can probably fit you're entire collection into the hard drive.
