I'm seeing an accumalation of what appears to be oil on my intake manifold, on the drivers side, under the water neck. Is this probably oil leeching up past a loose bolt? It looks like I'll have to remove a bunch of stuff to get a socket on to tighten it.
Indeed it sounds like that; those intake base bolts go through the heads and into the galley area.
If the two local bolts are very loose you might try just tightening them, otherwise you might try this:
-remove the suspected bolts
-chase the threads on bolts and in the heads
-apply Permatex #2 to the bolt threads
-torque those bolts to spec
I believe you will need to remove the plenum and runners to access most of the intake base bolts. They take about 35 ft-lb of torque so make sure your Torx socket bit is at a perfect angle to keep from stripping the bolt heads or the bit.
