On Saturday (after conducting an on-line survey here) I went with the second most voted tires the Kumho Ecsta 712 275-40-17
On Sunday, I drove back home from Georgia (940 miles - ish) and encountered a wicked severe storm somewhere in Kentucky. This was BAD weather...most cars pulled over and waited it out. It was the type of short-lived hard rain that interrupts radio station programming for the "Severe" alert.
I was amazed how these tires performed. I immediately slowed to 35 mph and gradually (carefully) increased speed to 70 as a test. They were perfect with no indication of hydroplaning what-so-ever.
That big honkin center groove seems to do a great job of eliminating water from under the tire.
My 2 cents - and thanks for all who voted and expressed advice and opinions.

:iagree: I have 'em on my 92, and I love 'em. Today I drove at 60 mph in a heavy downpour, and they held wonderfully. I also drove on them all last winter, yet I'm still able to get under 2 seconds 60' time with a stock engine. :steering:

Re: Kudos for Kumhos... (vette92_1)
They are indeed the best buy for the money. I have a set coming in to replace the ones I've had for over two years now. I drive a lot!
I have been running them on my BMW Z-3 for over 2 years now, and they are fantastic. I am going to order a set to replace the Pirelli's on my Vette this fall. :chevy

Cant go wrong with the MX. $$$ less than pretty much any other y rated tire. Had mine since late June and love em. Just a little tough to get and keep shiny, but who cares.
