Replaceing rear deck carpet
the extra money is well spent on the backing? Has anyone done this and did
It reduce noise?
You want the the Mass Back Carpets. This is a heavy rubberish material bonded to the carpet and is what comes original from the factory. It really deadens the resonates.
The thinner and less expensive Poly Back Carpets are OK but it's best to put them over the orignal carpets because you really need that soundening quality back on the rear deck. It's difficult to do double carpets on the sides because it gets really lumpy. But the flat part of the rear deck works great doubled. I have double Mass Back on the flat part and I attribute my quiet interior even with muffler eliminators, as to one of the main reasons.
I got my carpets from Mid-Am and are the molded variety. They also have the Velcro strips in the right places for the storage compartment lids and fit very well. You can do this job yourself without much trouble at all.
Good Luck,
BIG JIM
