Hey everyone, new to the board here. A friend of mine suggested I ask everyone on here how to rebuild an LT1 for my 93 vette. I've got a spun bearing on the crank. I'm looking to get about 350-400hp out of a rebuild. Money isn't a huge factor here, but I'd like to keep it within reason. My plan so far is:
1) LT4 cam swap kit
2) Long tube headers
3) Upgrade the pistons (suggestions?)
4) Underdrive pulleys
5) Electric water pump
If the crank is trashed why not go ahead and get a 383 kit. It will make great power and tons of torque. Dont forget to save some cash to have the ECM programed to what ever motor combo you end with. Here's a pic of the LT1 I just droped in my 84

Very nice looking. What did the build up cost if you don't mind me asking?

The build up was about $2000 but $800 was on the porting of the heads and intake and over size valves. The motor only had 27000 miles when I got it so I used the stock pistons and crank. The rebuild kit with rings, bearings, oil pump, timing set, and gaskets was around $500 (I think). then about $200 in machine work (hot tank & hone block, mic. the crank, replace cam bearings, new freeze plugs ect.. I bought an LT4 hotcam and springs from jeff kopp and I think that was less than $200. The forum is a great source for parts and most of the members are stand up guys to do business with. I got my headers, LT4 rockers, radiator, 3.73 rear end, and a bunch of other parts rite here on the forum. Good luck with the motor and just remember there is no such thing as to much HP. One last thing if you are going to build the motor up you may want to consider gears and a higher stall TQ so the car will be more streetable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have a question tho. In order to turn it into a 383, I need a bigger crank, correct? I know that can't just be it. I'll take a look in the wanted/for sale forum for some headers and gears.
Walter, the stock LT1 has a bore of 4.000 and a stroke of 3.480 which gives a displacement of 349.847757. If you bore it .030 your dispacement will increase to 355.11515. If you throw in a chrank with a longer arm (3.480 up to 3.750) you get 382.66719 (383) or (3.875) you will have 395.422763 (396). I think that is the biggest chrank you can get into an LT1 and if you use one of those and a .060 overbore you'll have 401.33186. That is really pushing it. :steering:
