Pull the stop/haz fuse and try it again. If you don't see 0.5 volt drop, the cause is due to voltage drop from the stoplight current through the ign sw. The dash voltmeter measures the voltage after the ign sw and thus includes any voltage drop from current through the ign sw.

it seems a really strange thing. I'll do the fuse check tomorrow.
Judging from your reply, I suppose it's normal, but I wonder if our vette's did it from new or is there now more resistanec in the complex circuitry caused by having a f'glass body.
