Who here has experience with carbon fiber driveshafts? PST makes a driveshaft and halfshafts for our C4's. The same type are used on their 7 second mustang. Apparently they are much lighter, for less reciprocating mass, which consumes less horsepower to spin them. They also claim the carbon fiber shafts put less stress on the trans and rear, which is something we all can use, considering the C4 rear is no Ford 9" in strength! Read about it here http://www.pstds.com/critical-link.cfm
I think they are absolutely the way to go. I have the halfshafts (not installed yet) and plan to order the drive shaft soon.
The reasons:
1) Drive line impact absorption!! This will reduce the peak stress that the rear axle, u-joints, spindles, differential, and transmission see. If you want to make your corvette's drive line live, the stupidest thing you could do is order ultra rigid, heavy duty metal halfshafts and drive shafts!
2) Safety. If you fail a U-joint or shaft, the carbon fiber shaft will not severely damage the under side of your car, or come through your floorboard and wail around in the passenger compartment. If it fails, the carbon fiber just "brooms" out and cleans the undercarriage.
Don't all act like you wouldn't spend another $1300 to go down the 1/4 mile a tenth or two quicker! You know who you are :yesnod: Of course I would never even consider a purchase like this  (unless that 1/10th made the car run a XX.99, rather than a XX+1.00 :D )

Hmm, interesting thought. I wouldn't buy this setup in order to free up more horsepower. In fact I would be happy if it cost me a few. What I'm looking for is something that will safely allow me to use what I've got. I know what I've got now will just break if I dump the clutch on a set of slicks. If these pieces will allow me to do that without worry of breaking anything then they are worth it. So quest for more power? No, simply the quest to utilize what I have. (which should equate to several tenths BTW) :D
I do have carbon fiber driveshaft and halfshafts with cryo treated billet stuff on my webpage under the "future mods" section.
On that site I see two seperate things for the corvettes. They have the half shafts, then they have one that says trans-differencial.... Whats the difference? Thought thats what halfshafts were????
My navigator runs them on his Vette & tells me the carbon fiber shafts balance out better & also absorb a certain amount of vibration. I've got carbon fiber half shafts & the drive shaft on my winter project list.
FWIW, They are avaliable with either steel or aluminum yoke ends...
