Anyone have a part number for the temp sensor for the analog gauge? I tried calling Advanced Auto parts and they couldn't come up with an exact part. Thanks!
One more thing, the wife thinks I should take it to the "experts" and called a local garage that specializes in vettes. They think we may be right about the sensor for the analog gauge, but they think I should bring it in so they can hook it up to the diag machine and pull the codes. They think a code might need reset and want $100 to hook it up to their system and do the test.
You guys have lead me right so far, so I'm thinking it's just the sensor, but could use a part number.
I thought I read somewhere you can pull the codes yourself (thanks for the info); but I was thinking, would the ECM show a code for the analog gauge? I'll check it out anyway. If by chance it did register a code, that code itself wouldn't be causing the sensor to malfunction anyway, so clearing it wouldn't correct the sensor, right? That's what the guy at the shop was trying to say; that it would/might.
I read the article on pulling codes. And how to clear them. If code 14 or 15 shows up should I clear it? Also I thought I read somewhere if you pull the battery you need a code for the radio to work, is that true? Cause I don't have any of that documentation for my car, so I don't want to lose the radio while trying to fix this. I'd be :mad LOL
So my plan for tonight is to 1st pull the codes just to see if there is anything there, then replace the analog temp sensor and fire her up and see what happens. Oh yeah, do I need to drain any coolant before I change the sensor? Or will I need to do any burping/bleeding?
I pulled the codes and came up with a code 28, which if I'm reading it correctly, says the fan relay was most likely at fault, which makes sense because after replacing it the engine has not overheated. I don't think I mentioned this before, but the rad cap that was there before was not the right size and I did replace it.
I also replaced the coolant sensor for the analog gauge (boy was that a pain), but the analog guage still goes all the way to the max(260) while the digital gauge never goes above 220 after 30 minutes of idling. But if I turn the AC on the analog guage will come down, but still doesn't match the digital gauge.
Now I've heard others say don't rely on what the analog guage always says, but can it really be that far off? Anyone got any more ideas?? Shawn, you listening?!?! LOL
