uh oh.. did i fry another engine??!!
i just got back from a cruise from Phoenix to hour north of Flagstaff (normally a 3 1/2 hour drive) i did it in about 2 hours. :steering: all uphill all above 100mph. one problem though. in the midst of my "quality control check" i did notice smoke coming out of back of car :banghead: (when i run hard i check rear view mirror as often as i look out front window) checked temp it was 265* :banghead:  when i got it over stopped the engine then cycled coolant every 20 seconds it brought it down to about 230*, i checked oil while i was at the my "pit" stop it was at the add line. not two days ago i changed oil to M1 5W30 it was also a good half quart to full. the smoke looked like it was coming from distributor cap or rear of engine.
anyone else out there guess this engine is not a "duralast" engine anymore and ready to good boom soon or do you think i just got real lucky noticing that smoke/heat so quickly? (i was keeping good eye on gauges...)
my engine seems to run real hot during day. roughly 245* even at idle or cruising speed. do u guys think i may have a oil/coolant flow restricition some place in my system?
btw, it is 112* out and im running a 383 stroker - think it is stock radiator. just bought this car about 3 days ago.
it runs cool at night. but poopiety during day. any ideas on why it was heat spiking/ smoking like that?
or does anyone know if something like a 4 core radiator would fit in there?

I see you are in mesa - which means your in luck! there is a great radiator repair shop on country club dr. called DANA RADIATOR.. It look like a dump but the guys did an OUTSTANDING job cleaning the old radiator out.. they remove the side tanks, ram all the built up crap out of it.. acid dip it and your set!
good luck!
btw. I appreciate the response, it is very reassuring to have a little advice on my new "daily" driver.
