I have a 93 conv. that has a stock engine other then 1.6 roller rockers, and a Ed Wright generic chip. I was interested in a small system, 75-125 hp. Is this safe? Can you give me a idea of how many runs I would get on a 10lb bottle? What brand is best to go with, and any other suggestions you could make. Also has anyone had problems with a conv. getting the top to fold down after the bottle install?
Call NOS, they will give you all the info you request here. My experience is that 100 shot will not cause any damage to your engine. I've been running a 125 shot in my sb for two years now with zero changes to timing, fuel etc. Once past 150 shot you need timing retard system and fuel management. A 10lb bottle with 100 shot will last 10 seconds a lb. so that's about a minute and a half. Doesn't sound like much but you'll get a good 10 runs down the track or two weekends of 'normal' driving, three if you're diligent. Cost to fill a bottle is $39. I gotta get a spare. :D
You would be wise to remove the Ed Wright chip before you spray it. They advance the timing a little and make it run leaner with the chips, not what you want when running nitrous.
Next, just pick a kit and add the features you feel you need. I like the NX stuff and chose to use it myself. Figure you want the Base LT1 kit and the Gen-X II it to get the bottle heater and some safety features, then add a RPM window switch to that and about $1200 later you have yourself a nice little install for a pretty safe 100 shot onto that stock motor.
On a 100 shot with a 10 lb bottle figure around 8-10 runs before you would need to fill it up again.
I had no problems getting the top to fold down when I ran the system in my '92 vert with the plastic window. Not sure how well it would fit if you are running a glass window top. I am sure it would fit fine with the low profile brackets that come in the kit now.
I agree with masterdave regarding the specs, I pay about $3.00/pound for medical grade nitrous, no difference in performance other than the fact that I can go home and abuse the laughing gas if I wanted. I'm running a 100 shot on my mildly built '87 L98 (actually about 80HP) No problems here... my system was professionally installed and has WOT safety switch.
Thanks to everyone for the information. I have a lot of reading to do, and I sent a e-mail to the link shown above, but did not get a answer. I believe it is sold but who knows. Thanks again.
i run a tnt kit set up with the 150 jets stock motor upgraded my electric msd 6al msd coil rpm activated window switch for the nitrous i have duel 10lb bottles 4.00 a pound im paying for the nitrous so about 80bucks a week ive been paying i get atleast 7 good runs before nitrous pressure really starts to fall fast
