Guys, I need your help...
Is it true that the auto transmission of my 86 corvette is controlled by the ECM?
This is happening: I give my tranny up for a total rebuild because we were missing a gear and the shifting was very rough !
Now it is still not shifting softly. It seems that the 4th gear comes in at 140 km/h when I keep on driving in D. Everything should be changed inside the tranny. So they come with the story that there should be something wrong inside the ECM !!???
I need a lot of information about how the ECM works and how the tranny is connected with the ECM
If you have a TH700R/4 tranny (stock in '86) the ECM only controls the TC lockup clutch via a solenoid in the tranny. The ECM does not control shift points nor shift feel.
Perhaps you should look for another transmission shop.
Did you replace the TV cable?
The TV cable not the ECM controls the shift points. As stated by the previous post the ECM only controls TC lock up.
Most likely either your TV cable is not properly adjusted or you have a worn or binding TV cable.
Check the manual for proper adjustment procedures but basically you depress the tab on the TV cable and push it all the way back in then press the gas pedal to the floor then you adjustment is complete.
It could be an issue w/the Valve Body. I know that I am having to put in a full transgo kit. Valve body in 86 was a Type 1 and had some issues that were resolved in later models. I have some paperwork on it. I will read through it & let you know some specifics.
