following the two steel brake lines up to the brake cylinder - right in between the front brake line and rear brake line is a broken plug that connects to a wire of some type. would this broken plug cause the abs sensor to go off? autozone doesn't even know what the part is, and my ALDL port (is that what it is called) shows only code 12.
sorry if description is bad i just bought the car and am learning lots of things on it fast. btw. it is a 91 conv.
Re: is this causing the abs sensor to go off? (mistaben)
Sounds to me like the proportioning valve switch wire. It isn't an ABS problem and with it disconnected the "brake" light will not come on if there is a failure in the hydraulic brake system.
I would get it fixed ASAP.
PS, stay away from "Autozone", and go to a good shop or GM dealership!
Re: is this causing the abs sensor to go off? (mistaben)
Bring it in and have it fixed- don't mess w/ brakes! My daily driver (94 G Am) had a broken sensor wire which was a fairly cheap fix ( $40 aside from the $90 dignostic). Do you have the BRAKE warning vs. the ABS warning?

brake light on top of the tach parts comes on at start up. ABS on the right dash part just comes on stays on. so does the low oil light, but the sensor has been removed.

I agree. Get that part fixed.
Is your ABS light on constantly? The unit will self test at around 3 MPH. The light will come on briefly and the ABS unit will "moan".

I'd be willing to bet that you have a bad sensor.
When I first bought my 88, my ABS light would come on as soon as I started moving. Since the ABS module is pretty much non servicable (to people like me), I started with the wheel sensors.
You'll need to take the rear wheels off to get to the rear sensors, but only one bolt holds it in. Pull it out and clean it. On mine, one of my rear sensors visibly had the notch on the end broken off somehow. I was able to access and remove my front sensors by just turning the wheels and removing the bolt. All four of them were covered with dirt and stuff, which I cleaned, but replacing the one that was broken fixed my problem.
