What would cause a tranny to let the motor "freewheel" when taking your foot off the gas? If cruising at 55 and I take my foot off the gas the motor drops to idle. Also if I would downshift to a lower gear the gear doesn't engage but it will be in the lower gear because it takes me to get the rpms up to where they should be before the motor and trans seem to be "linked" again. Any ideas?
Damn I've got brain farts, knew the answer, or at least how to check/correct.
But, someone will answer up, I'm thinking the TV cable connection to the trans, at least one of the cable connection's. Would check those first. Probably simple fix.
Good Luck

Did they put a new converter in it and what stall was it? I am not really sure I totally understand what your tranny is doing exactly......but it kinda sounds like the converter may be the issue...unless your TV cable is way out of adjustment.
Did they put in a manual valve body reverse pattern? None of those have engine braking so it will freewheel when you let off the gas and/or downshift. I know, I had one. Hated it.
Took it in tonight. He "thinks" it may be a broken sprag. I guess I will have to do some investigation or be there when it comes apart to see in fact if it is hard part damage or something they did.
NO it wasn't a manual valve body either. Yesterday when it went to downshift it made a clunk then it had no engine braking in 1-3 but OD does have it so it isn't a common problem internally. That lack of engine braking really is a pain especially in the city when you wanna be in second and let it sing a little when slowing down and all it does it go to idle.
