Well after a rough summer I finally got back to trying to find out the hard start problem I have been having.
I hooked up a Fuel pressure guage and got the correct 40+- pounds, which immediately dropped to zero when the pump stopped. I pinched the return line at the gas filler and same zero when the pump stopped. I pulled # 1 plug to look for wet condition but the plug was dry. It seems to me that an instant drop would cause a massive leak if the injectors were leaking( I turned on the pump 5-6 times with same results). The pump, filter, sreen and spark plugs and wires were all replaced in May (fuel pump was "almost new") the same problem existed before changes.
Does anybody have any ideas??? I thought the pressure regulator might be the problem but zero pressure after return line pinch seems to rule that out.

Your engine is holding a GIANT sign that reads, "LEAKY INJECTOR/S". Your own tests precludes every other problem and is the cause of your hard starting . If you want easy starting, you will have to replace the injectors. Early C4's had this problem and GM replaced the oringinal injectors for free under a service bulletin.
-Would bad injectors be an instant problem? My car started at first crank until about Jan. 2003. At that time the problem started. when I went to start I would crank and crank it would catch and stall unless I gave it constant gas until it warmed about 5 min. Since then I have not used the car much.Wouldn't bad injectors be a gradual problem?BTW my car has about 112k miles.

Well I am thinking as jfb said that this might be leaky injectors. When injectors are cleaned etc. are they also repaired for leaks or does that call for replacement?
Should I just replace them? I am leaning toward the Accel from Jegs, which ones for a stock late '86, they seem to list a few different flows?
thanks

i had this problem on my car. fortunately it is a little easier to get to the injectors on LT1s. i had three injectors leaking, and my test showed the samething. the fuel fressure would drop immeidately to zero as soon as you turn of the igntion. as far as replacement injectors, i went with FMS injectors. the set that leaked were accels w/ less than 20k miles.maybe i got a bad batch, but i've never heard of any problems with the FMS injectors.
