'86 Convertible Top Window Replacement (not glass)
The top on my '86 Convertible is in very good condition.
However, last night we had some very heavy rains and 50 mph winds in the Maryland area, and my rear vinyl window literally got blown into the front passenger seat. (It must have been dry rot)
My question: Has anyone replaced the window, without having to buy the top?
Can it be done without having to take it to a shop? What would I need to do the job, and where do I find the parts? Suggestions appreciated.
Thank you!
John

I would think you'd have to take it to the shop. The guys there will sew another one in professionally and it will look clean and untouched. Thats my $.02.
Re: '86 Convertible Top Window Replacement (UDLUV12)
I just purchased an 86 vert up in Belair. MD with a fogged rear window that was brittle. I called about having the window replaced (top was in good shape also-or so I thought) Shops all said the same thing...they have to remove the top to replace the window which would be around $400. I had the entire top replaced + new weather strip for $1100 from classic upholstery in Frederick. The recommended I put it through insurance. Insurance came out and depreciated it some so i only paid the deductible + depreciation which ended up being cheaper than the $400 to just replace the window. Once I got it back with the new top I realized how much better it looked than the original I thought still looked ok.
