I don't think any STOCK C4 Vette (maybe ZR1?) will break loose FRESH tires from a ROLLING start.

Am I wrong? Inquiring minds want to know.

My six speed car with Duncraps(I mean Dunlops) would spin them in 1st from a roll and even in 2nd from a roll(at idle). The car is still stock(except for exhaust).

Okay, the way to check out your clutch: when shifting from 3rd to 4th, nail it and see if the engine accelerates and the speed doesn't as in slipping clutch. Also, feather your clutch to see if it keeps on slipping after you release the clutch (still at WOT). If the clutch is good, you should feel a good positive "G" force when the clutch fully engages. If see slips, you should smell that :U aroma.

Dude,

I guess I've gotta get that Corsa on. I think my engine (LT4) is about average or a little better, but, from a roll, ASR OFF, I don't bust 'em loose.

Sometimes I don't know what I think I know.

I went out and tried this 5/10mph and tromp it. Smooth strong acceleration and no burnout. Maybe an L98 with all that low end torque but not my LT4.

The bottom line is I don't think this is any indication of the condition of your clutch.

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the delay in response. Im at home on dial-up and don't usually get on line. I usually use it at wor..... I mean.... well you get the picture... thanks Boss!

I still haven't tried it out. Got the "honey do's..." and some pesky rain. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. Tuesday for sure... if rain holds out. By the comments it probably isn't my clutch but had to ask. I like the test of putting it in third/fourth and tromping on it.

Thanks again. I will post again what I find.

It was fun. A rolling 5/10 MPH then "poping" the clutch proved that the tires will roast nicely.... :) As well as hitting it in 2nd.... :) I also tried the 3rd to 4rth "feathering" which didn't produce the nasty :U smell. I still couldn't produce the tire smoken results rolling and nailing it but it sounds like a few people can't do it either.

Bottom line is I don't think my clutch is broken. I was able to look into some PM that I could do on the hydrolic (sp) clutch though. Which I will add to the "to do list" this winter.

Thanks again for all your replies
