Default Weird alternator problems with 85....

When I first start the car the voltage sits at 11.5v. When I take off down the road I am still sittin there at 11.5v. If I pull out and get the revs up to 3000 then its like the alternator clicks on and bam I am at 13.6V. It will stay at around 12.8 until I turn the car off and start it back then it sits at 11.5V until I rev it up to around 3K. So I put a new alternator on today started the car and I saw 14.1V and said WOOHOO. I went to pay a bill and when I got back in the car to head home I started it and had 11.5V... with the new alternator... So it is doing the same as before.. I thought it may be a bad wire etc, but why would it come to life with RPM if it was a bad wire.. I also thought maybe it was lack of belt tension or something.. Any ideas?!?!

there is a two wire connector on your alternator. One is red, one is brown. I believe the brown wire has a short or break somewhere. This wire create the field in the alternator almost like an on/off switch. You can drive your car with out it but you have to rev it up everytime you start it.
