85 L98 cranks and cranks and finally starts with a lot of black smoke (fuel). Idles and runs fine after starting. Does this hot or cold. No codes. Replaced and properly set TPS per suggestions 2 weeks ago, but that made no difference. Any other ideas or suggestions?

Re: "Flooding" 85 - revisited (dajod)
Any difference between hot start and cold start?
A leaky injector usuallly won't have any effect on the engine performance after it's running, but it will cause flooding on hot starts.
I had some SEVERE fuel mixture problems previously, which I think I've pinpointed to a broken IAC, despite all the forum members saying otherwise...
The IAC was definitelly broken, and the car definitely ran like crap, but I had also put in new injectors, so that might have been the problem. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm, put the stock injectors back in, new IAC and now it runs fine.

Try this...
Unplug your "cold start injector" and see if it starts any better.
This 9th injector is on the drivers side between the sets of intake runners, just below the miniature runner tube that serves the pcv/vaporcannister.
Take the little metal harness clip off, and the plug should slide right off. You'll need a sharp pointy screwdriver or something similar to get the little metal clip off.
The problem occurs when both cold and hot, although I think it's worse when the engine is cold. It has been gradually getting worse over the past six months or so, if that's any help.
Might be a faulty temp timing sensor on the front of the intake below the throttle body. This sensor controls the cold start injector. I believe it acts independently from the ECM so if it fails there won't be a code...still learning about this myself... :seeya

Hmmm.... Is that temp sensor the one below the coolant nipple? And it has the same plug as the fuel injectors, with the little retaining clip and all?
