Default RR question

A bud had to upgrade his Roller Rockers on a Chevelle cause of a clearance problem. He cant return them and would sell them to me cheap. They are Harland Sharp 1.6 (1002). My question is do I need specific Rockers or will any SBC rocker fit. Do I need self aligning ones or guideplates? Is there any improvement on a 1990 with the mods in the signature if i add these rockers? Is there anything else i need to consider?

Thing to consider:

1. You need narrow body RRs to fit under your valve covers.
2. You will need to remove the drip tabs.
3. They should be self aligning or you will need
- guide plates
- hardened push rods
4. You may need new valve springs based on the additional lift

:iagree:

The only thing that might not be right is the valve covers. I'm not running narrow body rockers and they still clear the valve covers. It's just something you would have to try. I do know for sure that 93-97 Z-28 valve covers will clear very wide rockers with no modifications.

It looks like those HS 1002s are 1.6:1 RRs for 3/8" studs; and they are full rollers made from Al similar to the Cranes but don't look like they are self-aligning. So you would have to pull your studs, replace the stock guide plates with hardened ones along with hardened pushrods. I would also toss the stock oil shedders, install Comp Cams #981 springs and use a CC #4753 shim pack to get correct installed height.

Further on their web sight they say that their RRs may not fit under SBC rocker covers and may require tall covers (if my PC weren't giving me problems just now I'd post the link, but you can do a search on Hartland Sharp to find it). You can get the tech number and give them a call on this one.

You should see a 10-15hp gain from adding full RRs to your engine.

Thanks. Im gonna go with them. I knew i was gooing to need pushrods but ill get the guideplates too. They seem narrow enough for the valve covers but we will see. Are there baffles in the covers i can cut out?
