Today I did some preventive maintenance. I replaced both upper and lower radiator hoses. (Be advised most common auto parts stores only sell lower hose. I had to go to the dealer for the upper one) anyway, after I re-filled the radiator with dexcool, I idled the car with the coolant cap off and topped off as needed until the level was full. I closed the cap. When i went to shut the car off, I noticed the "Low Coolant" warning light is on. It looked full to me. What gives? ps- yes the reserve bottle is full too.
First, did your vette come with dexcool? I hope so. It is not good if it didn't come with it. Next, after the cooling system has had a chance to cycle a few times, you may see the need for more coolant. When filling, did you open the bleeds on the TB and thermostat housing? If not, you might still have air in the system. How's the radiator cap?
There is only one bleed-on the thermostat...you definitely should loosen and allow all air to bleed out when filling the system.
I may take a few hot and cold cycles like what was states already. Mine usually do...
Lastly, the hoses are available from Chris May and they are dirt cheap for GM parts...
:)
Crap, No, I didnt open the bleeder screw when re-filling. I knew there was something I didnt do but I couldnt think of it. well, I guess ill go through some more cycles until it goes away.
Gotta open the bleeder screw man. Every time I've drained my engine I get it filled back up just fine by filling with the screw opened until water starts seeping out, then close it and keep filling until it tops off at the cap. You should be able to remedy this first thing tomorrow, no need to run a few cycles I would think the code would clear once you've run it at the right level for a couple minutes. If you do all this and the problem persists just pull the light bulb from behind the dash, problem solved.
Yup, that worked, I opened the bleeder screw withthe engine cold, and within a few seconds, water started pouring out so I closed it and topped off the filler tank. Low coolant light was gone.
