Default Shocks and ABS (Frustrated)!

In all catalog listings there is no listing for the front shocks on a '88. Will other C4 shocks work on my '88?
My other question is when I go to the mountains on vacation, I all of the sudden lose braking in curves but I am able to pump them back up. On flat roads back home brakes work fine. I know that I'm not overheating them in mountains. I recently changed the brake fluid but I wonder if air is able to get caught in the ABS pump that could cause this problem?

Hi, im not a mechanic or anything and i haven`t had my vette that long either but i just thought i`d try give u a bit of info as u haven`t had any replies yet !

1st, wot make of shocks r u looking for ? - cos in the ecklers catalog, 88 front bilstein shocks r listed on their own, whilst the rears r listed under 88-94.

The same, goes for edelbrock, kyb and GTS (except the rears r lsited as 88-96).

The only make i can`t c a listing for 88 shocks is koni - have u checked their website ?

As for ur brake problem - i think it is possible that air could be causing your problem as pumping the brakes brings them back up. Maybe a change in the angle up the mountains is causing a few air pockets to move around - although u wuld think that air trapped would have the same effect no matter what. Also the altitude might just be enough to cause the air to expand enough to cause the problem.

I`ve heard ppl say that they have got air trapped in the abs part of the system - and i think there is a way to bleed it - have a scout on the forums to c exactly how u do it.

Lastly, is there a lateral acceleration sensor on ur year (mines an 86 and has one) - maybe its gone bad (i dunno if they do detriorate) and causing it to over sense the conering forces - of course that wuld bring the abs on - can u hear the abs pump start up when u get the problem? - if not, then i guess it can`t b the lateral sensor - maybe u shuld pull the abs fuse - if u still get the same problem that will eliminate anything to do with the abs including all sensors - and making the most likely cause air somewhere in the system - i dont think pulling the abs fuse physically eliminates the abs lines in that part of the system (just the functioning of it) - so even then it may still be be air in the abs.

Hope u got something to work on now.

Good luck :chevy
