I read (before diy-efi was down) that folks like me with the 165 ECU could update to the ARAP bin. From what I read this was the latest 1989 prom. Am I wrong?
The reason I ask, is Tuner cat does see it as a $6E bin, so thats good. But, compared to my $32E stock ABTK bin the switches and constants are very different. Will the ECM handle it or do I need to update my ECM module to handle the newer bin? According to Tunercat, the 165 ECM was the part number for both bin types, but I'm not sure about the rest of the MemCal being compatible.
Just flash the arap instead of the abtk to your prom......that's it. Except of coure the actual tuning/programming......Also
you may want to unplug the cold start valve wire-the 89 didn't use it.
Yes, the 165 will handle it. Keep in mind that ARAP doesn't have things like Cold Start Injector (it uses something else) or 4+3 compatibility if you have one.
Mines an A4 so no big deal on the 4+3. As far as the CS injector, is this really even an issue? I would think it just would never receive a "fire" signal and just sit there. Does it really need to be disconnected? I certainly will if there is a need, I just hate dangling wires
I updated my iron head '86 to the ARAP code and the only issue was with the no/nc fan switch. I forgot which way it needs to be set- but the early fan switch is one type and the later one is different. You will know as soon as you start the car if you have the setting wrong because the fan will start running as soon as the car starts.
