Default LTI intake adaptation to L98?

I'm considering building a 383 L98 motor with steel crank, 6" rods and about 9.5:1 compression. This will go in a Street Mod 2 SCCA 86 Vette (autocross racing). I'd like to stay pretty much street legal so I can still drive this car on the street.

I looked at TPIS's mini-ram and it looks about the same as a LT1 intake and was wondering if there is a way to adapt them to the earlier motors? I would even consider a head change to aftermarket (AFS?).

My thinking is to get a much better top end while keeping plenty of torque with the bigger motor. :steering:

Scorp, Great link!!! Thanks. He has the intakes for well under half of TPIS's mini-ram price!! Anybody have any experience with him?

Anybody have any performance comparisons between TPIS's Mini-Ram and the LT1 intake? :D :D :D

I did the whole LT1 kit, but never put it on b/c i am selling my car. I know personally a guy that did it on a 89 like mine, similar set up and gained TORQUE, yes gained torque and like +30 HP to the wheels.

Can you convert to a coil-pack setup and and run a LT1 intake on an L98 without any other mods???

Sorry to be the nay-sayer to this, but at one point I had everything to do the conversion, btu after reading countless posts and messages about people having fitting problems, leaks, and even damage from badly modified LT1 intakes, I sold the whole setup, and went with an LPE superram setup instead.

Also it too is not emissions legal, so unless you are in a state which doesn't require it, might aswell forget about it, or use it strictly for racing and trailer it.

I suggest you search for threads on this forum, and the http://www.thirdgen.org forum about the conversion.

Also I personally know a guy who got screwed after he bought a full conversion setup from http://www.lt1intakes.com , but there were major fitting problems, he also cheved up a distributor gear due to improper height on the distributor hole/spacer, etc.. Might aswell just buy an LT1 and transplant that in the car.

The conversion is definately not a bolt on deal even if you get it from lt1intake.com already adapted. The distributor height needs to be checked but that should be obvious. I had to machine mine to get all the surface angles right, but my heads had also been machined ALOT. There are a lot of little things to work out but for the $400 i bought mine for its well worth it. I have run the car at the strip once without tuning and the stock 2.59 gears. It went 12.9 at 111 skipping through first gear and pulling second all the way thru the traps. The engine revs to 6500 and peaks right around 6000. This is on a 383 with ported 113 heads and a comp extreme energy 236/242 @50 duration cam. I have a very good feeling that if i get some 200-215 cc heads (compared to mine at 175 cc) it would produce alot more top end and not loose too much bottom.

Of course some of you may not find a 12.9 impressive, but considering it has no tuning, street tires, 2.59 gears, auto, and at a notoriosly slow atlanta dragway in 90 degree heat and 80% humidity......i think it is pretty darn good. :D

I'm sure that doing this conversion on a stock L98 isn't advisable, as these are torque monsters which is what I need.

My plan is to build a pretty stout 383 so I'll still have the torque I need and have the top end, too.

There are too many other issues to transplanting in a LT1.

Thanks for the links, I'll look into the problems others are having.
