How can you verify a numbers match on a 96 lt4? I know the sticker on the door and the sticker in the compartment in back as well as the window stick but how about the engine?
According to the service manual for a '96 a partial VIN is supposed to be stamped on the pad in the front of the passenger cylinder head. It is not. Stamped here is an identification of the manufacture plant, date of manufacture and engine type, but not any partial VIN. The Corvette Black Book has a reference to what the codes stamped here mean.
I read somewhere (probably on this forum at some point) that there is a partial VIN stamped on the very rear portion of the driver's side cylinder head. I think it is supposed to be visible with the engine in the car. I have not tried to find it on my car yet but since you have me on the topic I will take a peak.
I think it is on top of the block right in front of the passenger side head under the coil pack. My block has been decked so it is no longer there, but I think that is where it should be. Never noticed it stamped on the heads though.
