You might not have a problem in FL. The CSI has a very short pulse in warm weather and about 8 sec (I think) in really cold weather. Might have some longer crank times.
Just unplug it and see how it starts for a few days.
It's on a car I just put together and the line leaks at the fuel rail so it doesn't have enough pressure to start the car. I trying to get it running to work the bugs out then sell it.
I'm curious why they ever needed a cold start injector. The whole point of a fuel injection system is to provide precise fuel control. I wonder why they couldn't get the job done with the other 8 injectors?
I think Jesse has been burning chips with programming to remove the cold start injector. Contact him(Ski_dwn_it) and he should be able to give you the run down.
On my 88 in 80 degree weather, when I unplug my cold start injector it has to crank for literally about 10 seconds for it to start.
That just isn't right to begin with. :nonod:
You mean something on my car isn't working like it's supposed to? ;)
Actually I haven't tested it since I got new injectors. Not really sure if it was because of my main 8 injectors (which were badly leaking), or if my cold start injector itself was bad. I'll give it a try one day when I'm bored now that I have my other 8 injectors.
If something can possibly go wrong on my car, it has.
Scorp, concerning the removal of cold-start, I've heard that the later vettes had it programmed in to pulse the 8 injectors more at startup.
Did they remove that thermo time switch on the front side of the intake base on 88-up vettes?
:yesnod: on both accounts. The guys at tunercat actually added a "Crank Pulse width vs. Coolant Temp" field for the $32b (87-88) ECM code so that you can program around a deleted CSI now.

:yesnod: I had Jesse burn a custom chip for me after I put on my SuperRam which doesn't allow for CSI. Even with the custom tune may car takes 4 or 5 turns on the key for it to turn over.
I took mine out two years ago because fuel was leaking. I have not had a problem. Though I live in Phoenix, the winters still get down in the 30's. Still starts up, but does take some extra cranking but not bad at all.
How feasable would it be to somehow break into the cold start wiring to make a switch you could use at WOT to use the cold start injector for more fuel/power?
