I just got my stock throttle body back from a re-build and 52mm port job. I decided to go this route after reading about the fit issues with the aftermarket TB's. It cost me $250 for the complete job including shipping.
Personally, I wouldn't change the TB unless you have some head work, cam, maybe stroke and bore, and exhaust done. Think of the engine as an air pump, air in and air out, what's the sence in giving your engine more air than it can use?

:iagree:
If you put on a larger throttle body with no increased engine demand for air (no head porting or long tube headers, cam, rr's etc) then you risk reducing the velocity of the air going through the throttle body, thus losing some low end torque. Leave the tb stock if the rest of the engine is stock.
What mods do you have? I am looking to go to a 52 mm TB and am looking at several Options. Where did you get yours rebuilt and ported? There is a 54 mm billet from exotic muscle but it is over $500.00 so the $250.00 that you spent sounds good to me. I have a LT4 with long tubes, Corsa cat back, and am installing a cam. No head work yet. The LT4 flows pretty good as a stock set up. Thanks for your response.
One day, if and when I change my stock L98 Intake and have my heads ported or have aftermarket heads installed... then I might consider buying a 52mm trotle body... until then, I think its a wast of money.
I am doing the following modes:
Pocket port my L-98 Al heads, new SS swirl polished Manley valves
Lingenfelter 74211 cam with matching valve springs, keepers, retainers
1.6 roller rockers
Rebuilting stock short block and having balanced
Cloyes true roller timing chain
Accell base/intake
Accell large tube runners
Ported stock plenum
All polution equipment, cats, etc removed
true dual exhaust
Stock exhaust manifolds ported, air tubes removed and holes welded up, ceramic coated.
Cut lid
K&N
TPIS thin head gaskets
Flow Cool water pump
Skinned up hands
Dirty fingernails
New vocabulary
Lingenfelter said I would need to go to at least a 52MM
Look on ebay searching "TPI" and you guys will see the throttle bodys I'm asking about. I just wanted to know if anyone had gotten one of those units or knew someone that had to find out if they are any good. The price is right.
Hey guys, I understand most of the modifications our L98 friend will be doing but I'm really curius what these item are.. I also have a L98 and I am planning on modifying the engine one day.
I really like the stock look of the engine, I've seen what the ram air looks like and it really takes away that cool look of the engine.
Is the Accell large tube runners similar has the L98 intake runners, but just bigger? does any one have any pictures?
and what is the plenum?? I've been earing this alot, but honnestly don't know what it is... any picture for this also :)
