Can this cause problems other then throwing the fluid out? I am having problems with my dana 44 I installed about 3 months ago. I have a different post going about the scraping noise it was making. I was going to change the fluid and I pulled the fill plug out and got just a little over a pint out of the fill hole. I guess I over filled it when I installed the diff. I filled it before installing it. Any input would be appreciated.
They will all foam up on you some degree, Just some are better that others. This is off Redlines web site. Prevents foaming even at high speeds. I have the Redline Oil in my car that comes with the additive built in and have no chatter of the limited slip. And I think its cheaper in the long run. You pay like $5 for the additive? That is almost the cost of one quart Of Redline oil.
Here is a good read up on there oil.
If the car was sitting on its wheels and the differential in the car, its nearly impossible to put too much in. It will just run out the plug. If you did fill it outside the car and think its too full, like if you had it on its side and filled it all the way. Just go under and pop out the plug. It will drain out till its just under the hole, where I usually put it. End of story.
Even if you put too much in, I think your ok. I would though for as easy as it is to do. Pull the plug and let it drain itself to the propper level.
Isn't it possible to whip the stuff up into a froth and lose protection like engine oil?
This is what I had hoped had happened. The night it happened it seemed to be locking when turning the car at a slow speed. However the next morning it seemed ok. To answer a few of the questions above, I filled the diff. before putting it in the car, I used redline that says it has the additive already in it. I have since drained it and letting it set. Im going to refill it this evening. I just dont know if I should go back with the redline, mobil, or factory fill. One other note, the u-joints only have about 3000 miles on them, but checking them and the wheel bearings as best as I could, they seem ok, no play at all in them.
That I dont know. I bought it used from new 92 racer. I believe he had used it in his race car, but was changing out to a ford 9 in rear end. He had a hardened pin put in it as well as the 4.09 gears. But the clutches and bearings, I have no idea on. But I have had it in for 3 months with no problems until now.
