Default Header bolts/studs .. help!

Ok, i'm confused on how i'm supposed to put my hooker shorty headers on. Here is what I have to work with: (studs circled in grey are my main concern)

How do those studs work? The 5 on the right are the ones that came with the headers.. the 3 on the left are ones i bought today. THe 8 bolts at the top left are for the non-raised areas of the headers. The one 1.5 inch bolt in the middle is for the one bolt hole that doesn't need a stud.

This is what I think but may be wrong. The short end of the stud installs in the flange of the header that mounts to the exhaust where the donut gasket goes long portion of the stud goes down so you can just use a socket or impact. The other 8 bolts hold the header to the heads. Sorry kindof bad description but the best I can do.

Hey Glock, Please do yourself a big favor and coat those headers. I'd suggest Jet Hot Sterling coating. Now, as far as header bolts, I found that the 3/4 " header bolts you have in the wrapper are really too short for aluminum heads. I also think you'll find that you won't be able to put a socket on those header bolts because of limited space near the tubes. I went with S/S socket head 1" bolts and that allowed me to use a hex socket and my torque wrench. As far as studs, I, again used S/S hex socket head bolts and fabricated spacers so I could mount the alt/A/C support brackets. Again, this let me torque the bolts. On the oil dip stick, just make a spacer (like a standoff) and that should do it for you. You'll like the Sterling coating if you go that route. Mine are still shiney and help reduce heat under the hood.

Hope this helps  :smash:

Yeah - that sounds good to me. I'm not going to spend the $ to have the headers re-coated. THey aren't "that" bad ... i just spent an hour cleaning them up with a polish wheel from a dremel as well as using some aluminum wheel polish on. Eventually I will go with longtubes that I'll have Jet Coated for sure :yesnod: ... unless someone knows of a place to get coating done for a good price ;)

You won't need those studs. You will use your factory bolts from your manifolds on the areas where the stand off's are on the headers. You'll really want 1" bolts on the others.
