Just curious at what point does one feel faster? How many HP does it take to feel quicker? AND is there a big difference between 14 sec and 12 sec cars?
I am just wondering. I remember in high school that a guy had a 70's camaro than I was riding in and he stomped on it and it took me off guard and pinned me back. That was the fastest car I have ever been in and I have never felt anything else like it. My car is pretty much stock 14.0 sec car...what can I expect at the 13 and 12 second times?

I can't tell you what it feels like (yet :) ) but I CAN tell you how much it costs - about $6000. And the difference between 12 seconds and 10 seconds is at least another $6000 and that doesn't include beefing up the drivetrain to take that additional HP. I'd like to know, too because for that kind of money it should be dramatic. Here's a thread with a little more info on possible mods and costs: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=637116
For sure a 12sec car will feel much quicker than say a 14sec car, by a lot.
Partly the feeling is that the car pulls stronger throught the 1/4mile.
But the real hit is in the 1st 60 feet so lets compare g-forces (this is what you felt in your friends '70 Camaro):
1g - 1.93sec
2g - 1.37sec
3g - 1.11sec
4g - 0.94sec
5g - 0.87sec, lets stop here as this is top fuel range
A 14 sec car will typically pull around 2.2sec 60' times or .77g, while a 12sec car will be in the 1.75sec range, 1.22g.
As far as HP is concerned most people cannot feel a gain of 10chp, but 20chp is noticible by most.
Since it takes about 100chp to drop 1sec off your ET you will certainly feel the change in going from say 14.0sec to 13.0sec.

:iagree: Pretty much it. Also, even in a mid 14sec to a low 14sec you can feel the difference, now imagine from 14 to 12!!!
Track times don't always tell the whole story, but the total experience is very interesting indeed. Picture my friend's 92 which makes something 274 horsepower vs mine which makes 379. Sitting in the driver's seat it might as well be the same car. Driving in a straight line at legal speeds it might as well be the same car. Nail the gas and all I can say is damn his car is slow!
It's such a noticeable difference difference that I just almost thought for a minute that there was something wrong with his car. If you look at our track times there is only about a second worth of difference. Get it on the street and it feels like the difference between a V-6 camaro and a Z-28. It's really hard to put into words how this feels, so here's a picture.
It feels this much faster

The only real difference between his car and mine is the $g's He's workin on it though, headers are in the real near future.
Here's another little rule of thumb, every 1/10th of a second in the quarter mile equals about one full car length. Obviously this is not accurate at all ET's but applies to most street car levels. So think about what it would take to be two to three car lengths ahead of you next time your on the gas. A few tenths is definately noticeable.

I wouldn't go that far... You can get 12's out of a C4for a LOT less cash..

I don't want to hijack Bruthish's thread here - he asked how 12s felt, not how much they cost. But I AM interested in the "a LOT less cash" so I sent you an IM asking how, thanks...
Bruthish, what other car might you have besides the Vette? The analogy might be to hit them both pretty good right after each other and that SOTP feel might give you an idea........
I went from a very strong running stock L98 to my current 400rwhp/550rwtq Callaway....I can tell you the diffence between the two car is night and freakin day. But I guess it shouldn't take a genius to figure that out :jester
He also wrote he was a passenger in the other car. The passenger will always feel the acceleration more than the driver because he has no idea what to expect. As a driver, I know when I'm going to mash the gas, my passenger has no idea when.

I've experienced this myself, and I've always wondered why. Alone in my Scirocco, I know how full throttle feels in, say, second gear. If my son is driving and I'm in the passenger seat, the car always feels MUCH stronger.
The car is probably slower (extra person inside), but FEELS quicker. ???
Content: seat-of-the-pants feelings can be misleading. But you'll for sure feel the difference between a 14second car and a 12second car!!! I don't know if you can reliably feel a tenth, but you will feel half a second!
Once you get your 14 sec vette down to 13.5 with the easy boltons and freebies, you will notice a difference. I think its really noticeable in .5 sec increments, and if you jump a whole second......HANG ON!!!!!
When I first bought my car, I thought it was pretty quick, lots of tq, then i got my 14 sec timeslip and was bummed. Now over a second faster, and the car is night and day different. It was less then $6k too. More like half of that if you do your own work. Things get hard from 13 on down, and more $$$.
Being a passenger, my car feels like the Space SHuttle, when Im driving, I WANT MORE!!!!! Thats why I bout NOS!
Thanks Guys...I guess being a passenger does make a difference..and no, I was not expecting it when he hit the gas. I used to have a 68 Cougar that I was driving and the opposite occured...my passenger said it was the fastest he had ever been in but to me it was plain slow...I guess I was just used to it.
