Hit the rev lim last night.
I just got the urge to wind out 1st & bang 2nd, left my right foot down too long & planned the shift a little late.
I guess this doesn't hurt anything does it?
Also is this why some guys use adjustable shift lights?
Thanks.

Don't let it happen for a prolonged period of time is all. You didn't hurt anything.

The rev limiter is there to keep you from doing any damage. Just don't bounch off of it for a long time, when you hit it just let off or shift.

How do you know when you have hit it? What is the limit? I hava 94 LT1 six speed and I know that at the track I have probably hit it, but I am really not sure. Does anything happen, or does the rpm just stop rising?

You'll know.:yesnod: The car starts going BAP BAP BAP BAP BAP as it holds the RPM at a certain limit. Its there to protect you, you'll be fine.

Scorp, you don't really have an electric "tornado" super charger (read: gimmick) do you!?!?!?!
I read that in the "mods" section of your bio.

How does the rev lim do it? I don't feel the gas pedal push back like asr. Does it cut fuel, spark, timing, all the above?
I don't feel that it applies any brakes.
Thanks.

Re: Hit the rev lim last night. (froggy47)
well what is the limit on my 95 lt1? i know redline is like at 5800 rpms? but what is the rev limiter at? and if i wait to hit it before i shift i'm still ok? 6 speed car. the reason i ask is that when i bought the car it had a spun bearing and i had to replace crank, rod and bearings. any ideas on how this happened if it has a rev limiter? thanks

5850 rpm. You can take it to 6000(the tach isn't quite exact).
You can hear me bounce off the limiter here

Re: Hit the rev lim last night. (froggy47)
I keep my right foot down all the time working clutch pedal and stick while watching rpms and tire slippage. Before slippage occurs the gas needs to be backed off. Fully releasing gas pedals costs time and crankshaft inertia built up between shifts. Shifting must be as short as possible to avoid traction and clutch loss. If you running slicks you migh crack the tranny or snap a U-joint.
What it boils down to is a precise sequence of events just to sqeeze maximum power to the rear wheel without loosing traction.
note: 30k on stock clutch but time to replace.
