ouch...i washed the engine ..now starts hard ..help
I have a 87 automatic vette....had a bright idea to wash the engine since it was so dirty....
well of course now i see a check engine light...and the car starts hard...runs great ...but starts hard.
well any ideas what this rocket scientist did ?

Pull your cap off your distributor, I will bet the thing has moisture in it. Then are there you get that running disconect your battery to clear the codes..

It sounds like your distributor cap is wet inside. Take some sandpaper and clean the contacts inside. When I wash the motor in my '89, I usually have the opposite problem- it start easy and runs badly- that was the throttle position sensor getting too wet. Be sure to cover that thing as well. Surprisingly, I've never had a problem with the cap getting wet inside. When the tps was getting wet, the voltage output was stuck at WOT- when you crank the car, you get wot fuel and idle air intake which makes for a severely rich condition. When you rev the motor up, it smooths out when the air intake matches the fuel flow. Anyway, it sounds like you need to clean the inside of your distributor cap.

well cleaned the inside of the distributor....pulled the ground of the battery...and all set....no more problems....thanks for the help...you saved a guy from crying him self to sleep tonight :)
