So if you remove the vacuum line from the reg. your pressure does not go up? It should. You have a vacuum leak somewhere, most likely. Check all the vacuum lines everywhere. If it is that bad it is probably affecting your idle. Has the plenum come off recently? :seeya

The idle is fine there just isn't any vacume there. the plenum was off a couple of years ago for a runner and intake insall. The car runs fine otherwise.

I don't know if the 86 is equipped the same as the 92. However, there is small vac. canister (about the size of $.25) on the pass side of the intake about mid point. It can develop a hole on the bottom due to the heat of the intake causing a vac. leak. You might check.

Double check those vacuum lines. I have an '86 and I ended up changing all the lines they were very brittle. My cruise didn't work either until I changed the hard nylon line. I had a cracked one next to the distributor, changed the rest for insurance. My AC didn't direct cod air to the proper vents until I changed this line. The prior owner had AC freon changed to the tune of $400. to cure the AC problem, they never found the broken vacuum line, so AC never worked correctly.
