Ive been playing with my spark plug gap and its seems that the higher I gap my plugs the better color and burning I get from the spark plug.I started with
a .040 gap and Im up to a .053 with a NGK FR5 and a Crane PS2 HEI coil and
MSD 8.5mm wires on a set of ported Edelbrock Performer Heads can
someone tell me why this is because it seems that everyone else is running a tighter gap
Well, I run a .045"-.050" gap with cut-back AC Delco plugs, HyperTech cap/coil/rotor and TPIS wires.
A hotter coil with low resistance applies hotter spark and more current to ignite the charge across a greater gap. This provides more complete combustion which means not only more HP but a cleaner burn and better fuel economy.
black_89_vette, I don't know the specifics of that ignition upgrade so I phrased my response that way.
Southern Comfort, you can expect 8-10chp gain, some reduction in emissions and a little better fuel economy from this mod, as described on my site (link in sig. below).
