Default Some photos, updates & valve spring question...

hi all, first a couple of photos on the stock Xbrace install on my coupe. I made these plates from 1/8 in plate & welded into the rear area. Next step will be to weld on some 1/4 thick by 1 inch strap for drill/tap of holes for the rear mounts.

Now for the valve spring question. Just got my heads back from the shop. The stock springs were pretty weak, under 60 lbs seat pressure at installed height. The service manual only calls for a 76-84 lbs but the Isky springs the shop put on are running about 120lbs closed. Is that too much for the roller cam system... as in it could cause premature failure of a roller lifter or cam lobe? Here is a pic of my heads ready to go.

The shop that set mine up went with 110 and 320 open. So you will be fine with a roller cam..

Right click on any pic in this thread and then left click on Properties to see where a typical pic is stored, i.e. it is stored on a web site.

Once you have the pic on the web, during a post here, left click on Image below the Reply window and paste the web location of your pic between the two <img src=" " border=0> braces.

120 should be completely fine. i am running 140 on my springs now with a hydraulic roller, altho my cam is pretty aggressive.

You say roller cam, do you mean solid roller or hydraulic roller.

A solid roller cam can take a lot more spring pressure than a hydraulic can. You enter into trouble when the spring pressure collapses a hydraulic lifter. In either case you're just fine. My springs were set up for something like 140 and who knows what open pressure (I'm sure it's unreal) and it's been doing just fine as my daily driver.

The higher the spring pressure the less likely you are to have valve float which means higher RPM potential. That's ONE reason a solid roller cam can rev higher than a hydraulic.
