Will the Dana 36 rear end unit be able to handle the stress of the 3.70 gears, preparing to make this swap. looking for info
Thanks everyone and you are all the greatest on giving a helping hand,
Don  :hurray:
It can handle the ratio, the only thing it may not is drag slicks and alot of torque.
So if you have substantial engine mods, then it may break on you one day. It would be easier to break with the lower ratio gearing, but not something you need to really worry about.
I have a 3.70 gear in a Dana 36 on my 1994 LT1 with an automatic and I have been tearing out the spider gears after 15 to 25 drag passes. My motor is a stock LT1 with bolt-on mods and I'm running BFG Drag Radials (275's mounted on 9.5 inch rims). The car runs some good times and the 60' times are in the low 1.7's but the brakeage is an issue. If I had to do it all over again I would have spent my money changing over to the Dana 44 which is what I will be doing this winter. Hope this is helpful advice - Bill
I have a Dana 36 with 3.73s . Ive many passes down the 1/4 with no troubles . Only a few bolt on`s . No drag radials . And very little whine .I highly recomend this CO. 812-279-4828 Ask for Pat Ikerd . Lost the name of the CO.
If you are going to run street tires you should be OK...any sticky tires out back and you'll have problems...I'm running 3:73's at the strip but with worn Eagle GSC's...I spin a good bit so my 60's are just so-so..the spinning saves my Dana36 for now though... good luck
