I have a 93 vette, automatic, completely stock except for a transmission cooler, with 65000 miles on it. The problem I have seems to be during very hot weather only. When I have been driving a while at freeway speeds, if I slow down to around 45 (due to traffic) the rpm drops to about 1000. When I try to accelerate back to highway speeds, the car sometimes stutters and lurches very badly, it is trying to downshift to get to the rpm up, but gets kicked out of gear. It feels like a bad engine miss, except that I can see the rpm jump up and be kicked back down as it stutters. It will eventually go into gear with a very soft shift after one or two tries. This only seems to happen in hot weather (90deg+). I’ve recently changed the filter and fluid, there were no parts or metal filings in the pan, and it does have a transmission cooler installed. Has anybody else had a similar problem?
Mick,
First off, welcome to the forum!! I am going to take a guess and say it might be the torque converter lock up. If it was mine I would jump the terminals A and F together (with a paper clip) on the ALDL connecter and drive it. This will cause the converter to stay locked at all times except in first gear. Hopefully someone with more info will add to this, but at least this will bump you back to the top.
