How fast can your LT4 go?
BTW we do it at around 0300am no traffic and few cops. This is just outside of Portland and we have about a 4.5 mile strech of road to do it, but the first 1.5 is enough.
Later

I think with a long enough stretch 170 can be done maybe more with an LT4...
Top speed is horsepower-related. Just because you can hit 135 in fourth doesn't mean you can hit 170 in sixth...an LT4 (never mind an LT1) doesn't make the power necessary to pull sixth to redline. This has been demonstrated and reported in earlier posts.
The LT4 runs out of power in fifth! Otherwise, it would pull 6300 in fifth. The numbers tell me that a slight change in the 3:45 rear gear to, say a 3:60 or so, MIGHT let the LT4 rev to redline (in 5th). You may even pick up 2 or 3 MPH that way. It would take a STOUT stock LT4 (and normal manufacturing variances just might provide said engine in some of the forum member's Corvettes!) to pull past 170mph in fifth.
I may have one of those.
But I'll never know... :nonod:

Heres the #'s
6sp LT1
0-60 5.6
1/4 14.0/102
60-0braking 115
slalom mph 68.3
Lateral accel .92
Top speed 170.0
Car and driver posted 162 and 167 for the LT4.
Who know's if 170 can be attainable for LT4.

170 MPH in stock LT4 is totally achievable-I know it.
Most believe a good running stock LT4 will do 175. Now that is flat ground with no wind.
Lightly modified...who knows...just speculation...
Turning a corner while accelerating is not the same as straightline accel...you won't hit topspeed on a track unless it is TRC or some other 20 mile oval.
Now has anyone seen the Mclaren F1 video of the fella hitting 240 MPH? Very, very impressive...guess that is what 640 HP will do...
I have no idea how long the back straight is at pocono.
It pulls hard all the way to redline in 4th gear.
once you shift to 5th. it loses 2 miles and hour, then slowly starts climbing back up.
The amount of road you use to reach 150, must be twice as long as pocono, and I wont do that on the street or any public road. It's rather stupid... and I'm not 18 anymore. common sense prevails :smash:
I agree with everyone else my LT4 keeps right on pulling hard above 135, had it up to 140 in 5th at Bowling Green this weekend and it was still pulling like a frieght train. I'd get yours looked at doesn't sound right to me, I don't loose any MPH when I goto 5th :nono:

I have 3.07 gears right now, auto tranny.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I ran with my friend's Dodge R/T (slightly modified) at 110 after just to make sure our speedos matched up. Sure enough they did. The thing was pulling hard the entire way to 170. I'd say it shifted (I'm guessing into over-drive) at around 135-140, but it's been a year or two.
The guys in the R/T were going 85 when we passed them, said it seemed like they were standing on the side of the road  I have a video somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.
BTW, the roads to and from South Padre are LONG and STRAIGHT and FLAT!

There are 3 dyno trips on this graph all done in 4th gear of course. Blue (pulled to 6800RPM) was after I added headers. Red (pulled to 6900RPM) added flowmaster exhaust. And green (pulled to 7200RPM rev limit) added an Intake port job. I could have pulled the red and blue one longer. But my tach is a bit off. It showed an indicated 7100 RPM inside so I shut it down. On the third trip I just let it hit the limiter. But you can see the increase in speed. And how much more power it takes to get there. I have taken my car to 175. Lets just say there was still more in it. But it was also a religious experience. :blueangel:
Yes it does. And yes more power will make you go faster. And since I was bored sitting here I decided to play with the dynojet runviewer. The mph readings I got from the graph are within 2 mph of indicated speedo reading. If my memory serves the speedo read higher than what this graph reads.

If I remember correctly, someone tried a top speed run in a Z with 4:33 gears. The premise behind it was to be able to pull in 6th... and it did, but only to about 187ish. Wind resistance multiplies exponentionaly so it would take a hellova lot more power to break 200.
