Ok I will admit to being wrong, just need some info, not from Wheelman or =Agent-Smith= because they are full of themselves :troll But from other people, I have a ZF 6 speed tranny with the following gears:
1st - 2.68
2nd - 1.80
3rd - 1.29
4th - 1.00
5th - 0.75
6th - 0.50
Axle ratio - 3.33
Now here are my cousin's gears in his 4 speed auto:
1st - 3.06
2nd - 1.63
3rd - 1.00
4th - 0.70
Axle ratio - 3.07
Say for instance it's teh same driver same conditions, who's car is faster in 1/4 mile? Just based on numbers.
EDIT: Both are L98's, Mine is a '90 and his is an '88.
I saw I wasn't on you S**t list, so I figured I'd answer your Q.:D
If you look at the #'s the two cars kinda even themselves out in 1st and 2nd gears between the trans and rear ratios.
But the 3rd gear is the difference. The auto is 1 to 1 and the 6-speed is still under driven.
With my experience on the track, I am in 3rd as I pass over the line and the auto was doing the same.
I can't help but mention though, the 10% slippage you get out of the auto, further slowing it down. The loss in HP is sufficient enough that it will never be able to catch the 6-speed.
Generally but not always, assuming all else is equal, the 6 speed car will be faster(mph), but the automatic will be quicker(ET). The auto will also get off the line easier and quicker, the six speed won't come on strong till after the 330' mark(give or take).
I remember a car magazine test comparing several L98 vintage vettes. The 6-speed & auto with performance axle (3.07) were almost identical in 1/4 mile. The 6 speed was 0.1sec faster & less than 1 mph faster than the auto. Seems like 14.1 vs 14.0 & 101 vs 100 were the numbers. The auto with the std economy axle was considerably slower by maybe .4sec.
So for me personally I am sure I would do better in the auto with performance axle, while for a better driver the 6-speed would be faster.
Bottom line they are almost identical for all practical purposes.
If you can launch the 6, youve probably got him.
If he gets you off the line, he'll have you.
:lolg: :lolg:   He's 15.....he can barely leave from a light without stalling......plus his car is stock..... :skep:
Yeah, I am 15, big deal? Barely leave without stalling? I don't think so. Brandon you can say what you want I really do not care, go get a life and leave me alone, and big deal my car is stock? As it said, I'm 15, how many 15 year olds are gonna have a modded Vette? Why don't you get off my back? I will have mods as soon as I save my money for them, just like I bought my mufflers, therefore it is not stock. In the meantime, stop talking to me. :D
I can launch my car no problem, ask someone who has actually SEEN me drive. Not someone who just thinks they know everything.
