Default Problems with Security System for '92

I was woken up out of a sound sleep about an hour ago by the sound of my Vette's security system going off. I don't know if any one was messing with it or not. By the time I got out there no one was around. I got in and inserted the key and the system shut down (or so I thought).

Now the "security" light on the dash keeps flashing, even when it appears not to be activated. It started right up and I drove it around the block, just to make sure everything was O.K. Now the interior lights stay on and the "door ajar" light is on even when all the doors and the hatch are closed. The interior lights went off for a moment and then right back on. Also flickered a couple of times.

I locked it up without activating the security system, but now the interior lights stay on. Its going to drain the battery and that's going to be a real pain!

Oh, yeah.....its been raining here for about 24 hours.

Has anyone had this problem? Any advice?

Sounds like your door ajar switche(s) are are acting up. Try exercising em" & even shooting a little tuner cleaner on em? Also see if you can pull the shaft out slightly for better contact .

I've had the same problem with my '92. The problem is that the pin(s) on one or both of the door switches are pushed in too much. When that happens, the plunger on the switch does not get pushed in all the way, and the switch does not get to the door "closed" position.

The fix is easy. The switches are located ON THE DOORS, at the bottom rear corner near the corner of the door panel. There's a small pin with a circular head in the center of the plunger. With a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the pin out a little. Do this for both doors. When you close the door for the first time, the pin gets pushed back in to the correct adjustment. This should fix the problem.

Mine also does this occasionally when it rains. I think the water lubricates the pin, so it gets pushed back in the plunger.

Thanks for the diagnosis. That seems to have taken care of the problem. :hurray:
