I'm using valvoline synthetic right now I think. No noticeable leaks. My old fluid was the consistency of snot and looked like it too so I can't give you a great comparison. :)
Two weeks ago I drained my power steering fluid and replaced it with Valvoline SynPower. It is a synthetic blend with conditioner and stop leak.
No leaks yet. :hurray:
the cold climate synthetic fluid part # is listed in the 96 owners manual. it comes in 2 different sizes. I don't really like it though, and will go after market.
On the actual bottle GM cold climate fluid is listed as partially synthetic, minimizes pump squeal & non-foaming PN 12345866.
I know people that have had good results with the Redline synthetic P/S fluid also.
Bingo !!!..thanks Superlund...3 months ago I went crazy and spent $9.00 a pint for "genuine OEM synthetic" cold climate fluid...I get home only to read the label and it's PARTIALLY synthetic, no different than the $2.79 Valvoline they sell around the corner.. had to drive 2 hours round trip to get it too.. :mad ...don't waste your time...btw, no leaks...
Is the Valvoline stuff compatible with the fluid already in the car. I can't flush (read: don't want to) the power steering system, I just want to suck out what I can.

Re: synthetic power steering fluid (larryfs)
Has anyone ever change from power steering fluid to transmission fluid? Whenever I have to tear into a power steering system I always use transmission fluid in place of power steering fluid. Iv been running it for years with no problems, and I believe it’s cheaper than power steering fluid.
Just curious if anyone else is doing this.
