Default Engine Install/ Tall Valve Covers

Hi All,
I bought a '88 C4 rolling chassis to build up for SCCA road racing.

I put my 4 bolt race motor in the motor mounts, but it doesn't quite fit.
It seems I'm having trouble clearing the tall valve covers against the fire wall.

Is anyone out there running tall valvecovers in a C4?
It seems so basic like they would have to fit, but I was thinking of the LS1 motor and how the heads tuck up under the firewall, and thought maybe this is part of the C4 design and I overlooked it.

If that is the case I could dump my stud girdles and just run polylocks and short valve covers, but I'd rather not give them up if I have the choice.

So... Should tall velve covers fit?

Thanks
Evan

No, tall covers will not fit. There are a few forum members that enabled tall covers to fit by modifying the back driver side corner to clear the windshield wiper motor. This is a common problem.
My covers are the mid sized, a inch or so higher than stock and I still had to modify a bit to fit.

I have talls on mine but they are custom built. I have a buddy that is running the Proform ones that have a slight angle on the ends and they are clear with mods to the wiper motor. He removed the the rubber gromits that hold the wiper motor on the fire wall. The only problem you will encounter is the drivers side. Here is a picture of my custom ones. Let me know if you are interested I will dig up the guys # Same guy does all the LPE and Calloway covers to.

Evan,
You might as well start addressing this problem now while your dealing with the valve covers. I had tall valve covers on my L-98 with 3" tall breathers
and K&N breathers on both valve covers. I had added bolt on splash guards below the entrance to the breather risers which had internal baffles. I had no end of grief with oil coming out of the breathers on the track. It would dump on the headers. I'd get black flagged for smoking. When I opened the hood I got flash oil fires on my headers. The halon from my hand fire extinguisher
put out the fires but it also ruined my polished aluminum. To make a long story short I capped the breather tubes and plumbed them together with hose in series to a catch tank. I left the LF breather as is so I could add oil. I also plumbed a pair of drain back lines from each valve cover back to the pan. At high rpm you can have as much as a quart of oil in each cover being thrashed about by the valves. This is also why I added an Accusump. Something to consider.

Not to hijack a thread... :D But I have the same problem with my breathers. I want to hook my PCV system back up to keep the crap out of my engine bay- are there any effective PCV type breather valves that work? I just don't want all the oil that comes out of my breather filters to get sucked into the intake and burned. I'd also like to avoid another canister/catch tank if possible, but would like to see a pic of your setup, Larry.

Larry,
how did your tall valve covers fit?

I use 1 3/8 hose to a antifreeze jug with swiss cheese holes drilled into it, zip tied in place, K&N style breathers aren't legal in SCCA
