New devoloping problem with 93 - running super rich???
Got a new motor, with a few mild mods done to it. Among those (see below) is the hot cam kit. Now, I am not sure exactly what is causing this problem but; here goes.
Started the car, packed it, and got it ready for a 500 mile round trip. When I got into the car, I noticed to large black marks on my (brand new) driveway directly below the exhaust tips. What a mess. Wasn't oil, I don't think. It does not smell like oil burning, nor does it have the lingering smoke like oil burning.
Here is what I think. It smells like it is running super rich. Perhaps, the fact that I am on the original ECU programming has something to do with it. I am thinking that I am blowing a bit of unburned fuel into the manafolds, and it is collecting at the other side of the cats, dried, and finding it's way out at the tip.
The car is fast as hell, and I do not notice any performance issues, nor clowds of smoke behind me when I nail it. My friend was (attempting to atleast) following me, and said that there was not anything obscene comming out of the tail pipes - at WOT. He did not get a shower on his windshield either. I am at a loss, any ideas? Got 25-27 mpg on the way home (hi-way). My next step is - perhaps pull a plug?

Did you do the LT4 hot cam kit? If so, I'm running it and on stock ECM and I have a rich smell and the shop told me it would run rich. I'm having an ECM programmed from Ed Wright which I should have Wednesday.

What is a "BLM"?
Also, how would I be getting condensation in the exhaust? - enough to deliver that much black stuff on the drive way? I also will take a look at the coolant tonight to make sure that it is not getting that in the exhaust, somehow. Doesn't that make a ton of white smoke? I most certainly don't have that either...

Checked the coolant, color and level is good. Oil change will happen this weekend. Will take down the O2 sensors, and see what they look like, etc. How much is this scanner tool going to cost - and where can I get one...

What is a "BLM"?
This is part of the fuel management software written onto the EPROM that controls your ECM/PCM. The 94+ years have PCM (PowerTrain Control Module). The BLM is Block Learn Multiplier or Integrator. This is the Short Term Fuel Trim and Long Term Fuel Trim settings in the computer.
You need a custom chip to correct this errors. The computer just can't make the compensation to the changes you have made to the engine operating parameters.
If you want to know more about what is going on then I would suggest reading the book by Charles Probst (How to Understand, Service and Modify Corvette Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Management). Covers years 1982-2001.

Thank you very much, I had no idea there was such an acro. Anyhow, I think that I am going to yank the plug(s) this weekend, and see what is going on there. I am not super keen on pulling the plugs out, I will start with just one. A re-program would probably help a bit as well.
But, the question still remains, what is this black stuff? Any guesses?
