I need to replace the passenger side mirror glass on my 95 coupe. I never have any luck taking off interior panels so before I break mine I would appreciate some guidance in the removal and install of the panel. I know I dont have to take the panel off to replace the glass but the mirror is getting very loose so I would like to tighten it, thanks in advance.
I have never done it, but I have read here that the glass just pops off the trunion that it rides on. Helms does not describe the glass only procedure. do a search using "side mirror" in archives...ton of stuff
thanks I know you don't have to take the panel off to replace the glass it just pops out but I need to also tighten the mirror and this requires removal of the panel. thanks 4 the quick reply. do you know how the panel comes off?
Your door panels are different from mine, maybe try a search?
You'll need ~8" extension to reach the bolts that hold the mirror fairing to the door. While you're at it, pop the glass out and tighten up the motor housing, they get loose after a while and very rattly.
You'll have to remove the Door Handle Bezel first.
Pop the interior light out, there is a phillips head screw behind it.
There is a screw behind the door handle and behind the manual lock slider. You'll have to remove the manual locking plastic piece, a regular screwdriver works well. Pry it out towards you. The bezel will pop out now, but you can leave it in. There is one phillips head screw on the rear of the door panel, 5 on the bottom, two for the door rest and one long screw in the front.
After that you should be able to pull the bottom away slightly and push up on the rear and work you way to the front. I usually hit them with the palm of my hand and they walk right off. It should hang down enough for you to access the mirror nuts.
You'll need a 10mm or 11mm, depends I've seen both sizes, socket with extension and a wratchet to tighten the two nuts.
Thanks alot this is exactly the help I was looking for I probably would have ruined my door panel. I'll have to give it a try this weekend Thanks again.
