As some of you may know I had a slight problem with knocking and pinging after getting a tank of 87 Octane. I decided to buy some octane booster. There are several brands on the market but none except the Prestone product tell you how much the octane rating will rasie. The Prestone product said it will raise by 10 levels with each level represented by .1 which means my 87 gas would only be 88 octane after the additive. I know 104 octane booster is the most expensive and the name would suggest that it goes to 104 octane by I find that very hard to believe. Any thoughts?
I am in Australia, but over here the best stuff is Nulon Pro Strength. There was a write up in a hot rod mag in which they had tested several octane boosters. This one gave the best results but was the most expensive. I use it when I race the car. I don't know if that brand is available over there.
Cheers

Re: octane booster Which one? (blk95)
They used to sell 100 octane at select 76 stations. I don't know if they do it anymore though.
Check the website. Although I'm not even sure they have 76 stations outside CA do they?
That stuff in a bottle is CRAP. Most of it just claims to de-carb your combustion chamber to reduce detonation, therby decreasing your octane requrements. It doesn't actually increase the octane rating of your fuel.
Think about it this way.. in order to add ONE PINT to 20 GALLONS of fuel, and raise it from say, 91 octane, to 92 octane, that pint of octane booster would need to be 250 octane. And it isn't.
Actually by point they mean .1 So if you raise your octane rating one point you are going from 87 to 87.1. Sounds pretty crappy huh? Your best bet would be to top the tank off with higher octane fuel.
Go siphon about half of your gas out, use it in the lawnmower. Then carefully drive to the gas station and fill it up with premium. Congrats you will essentially have a tank of mid grade and it'll cost you far less than all the octane boosters would.
Here in Indy, we have quite a few stations that sell CanAm 105 octane right out of the pump. Others that sell 100 octane----but then again Indy is the racing capital of the world
