Default fuel vapor canister

On my 86, at the bottom of the fuel vapor canister there is a fitting. Attached to this fitting is an elbow, then a hose, which comes out to just below the healight (but at the bottom). There it T's and one hose is angled to the bottom of the radiator and the other is tucked away next to the left turn signal. Is this just the vent to allow purge? Hope so, since they are not connected to anything. There is no reference to this in Helm's and it is not shown in any of the diagrams.

There should be no loose ends down there.

Check that round shaped vacuum reservior, there should be a line going to that from the bottom side.

I'd really need to see a pic to know specifically what you're referring to.

NO on the loose ends thing. at the bottom of the canister, there is a vent-to-atmosphere port w/ hose. the hose splits in two, one venting under, and one upwards, somewhere behind a front body panel. the two way split is just a redundant thing. the purpose is to equalize the pressure or vacuum within the canister caused by the operation of the fuel tank vapor pressure and the purge valve operation. as I recall, within the canister, there is some sort of filtering media for the bottom vent.

What is your opinion? Vent to atmosphere or plug it up and "Woosh" when you open the cap or plug it up and use a vented cap?

The hoses on the bottom of the canister are supposed to be open so they can supply air when the canister is purging. The air flows up through the charcoal and into the intake manifold.

So open to atmosphere then?
